There are countless word processors out there, ranging from simple notepad utilities, to advance editors with countless features. Bean is something in between. The application is lightweight, but it provides a good amount of useful features, among which you may count comfort, conveniency and ease of use. You can enjoy the same kind of functionality that an advanced editor provides, but in a more elegant manner.

The application has a clean and simple user interface, on which you can edit several documents, on separate tabs. Apart from the main editing area, you can find only a few options on a toolbar, for saving the current document, printing, finding a word or phrase, changing font settings, inserting pictures and others. The interface can be set to full screen mode at a moment's notice, in case you don't want to be distracted by anything on your desktop. When you are done, you can save your document in various formats, including plain text, PDF and even MS Word DOC.

More options can be found in the application's top menus. Bean includes all the basic editing and formatting options you would expect from a word processor, but it comes with many other functions as well, like word auto-completion capabilities and definition capabilities. If you need to look up a word in a document, you only need to select it and hit the Word Definition option and the application will bring up dictionary, thesaurus and Wikipedia entries for that word, directly on the main interface.

Besides its many features, it is definitely worth mentioning that Bean feels very smooth and elegant, due to its responsive controls and to the basic animations you may observe when clicking something. For example, text and images can be resized with sliders, which you can bring up on the screen at a moment's notice. Everything can be done on the fly, without spending a moment looking for the necessary controls.

Pros

The application has a clean, efficient and elegant design. It provides responsive controls, which you can find and use on the fly. Also, Bean supports various text formats, including PDF and DOC.

Cons

Certain features, like footnotes are not supported. Bean's straightforward functionality and elegant design makes it an excellent solution for almost anything that involves editing text.
